On Friday 15th July, Alison and Trixie ventured to Ropner Park in Hartburn to meet with Emma from the local mental health charity Red Balloons and one of their activity participants.

We met Emma at a community event at Teesside University and made arrangements to meet with the trishaw as she had a member in mind. We met at the cafe at the centre of the park and went for a slow ride around the park, taking in all that the park has to offer – the duck pond, the statues, the wildlife, the fairy doors, the community. During our time there we must have rode on every possible path.

During the ride, we learned that the passenger hadn’t visited the park since his children were young and it had likely been over 30 years since he was last there. He was happy to see all of the positive changes that the team of volunteers at Friends of Ropner Park had made around the park land and gave the greatest compliment of all when he said he felt safe on the trishaw!

The weather was a little temperamental and we had a sudden but short-lived downpour while riding around the park but it certainly didn’t dampen any spirits.

We had a great time with Red Balloons and hope to see them again soon.
