On Thursday 30th June, Trixie and Co. made their way to Saltburn-by-the-Sea to visit our friends at Hazelgrove Care Home.

After dropping Trixie and Alison off in the car park at the Lower Promenade leaving them to finalise a pre-planned route using satellite images of the area, Robert and Caroline made their way in the noble steed, McChadwick the minibus, back up Saltburn Road cliff to Hazelgrove Court Care Home.

We picked up 6 passengers at the care home to transport down to the sea front so that they could enjoy a beach-front ride on Trixie Trishaw. We also met three more passengers down by the coast in the Cat Nab Car Park.

Having made our base camp at the Cat Nab Cafe and Fish and Chip Shop, the first passengers left for their ride while those waiting enjoyed coffee and ice cream.

The rides went from the cafe through to car park (undergoing some work at the time) and along by the miniature railway to the children’s play park. Once we reached the park we turned Trixie around then headed back towards the main road taking in the view of the beach while cycling along. to the Ship Inn. Once we reached the Ship Inn, we turned back and pushed the trishaw along the Promenade past the pier, the cliff lift and the beach huts before returning to the cafe for the next ride. The smiles and the stories shared made all the pushing along the promenade worthwhile.

We would like to thank Redcar and Cleveland Council and the Enforcement Team for allowing us to use Trixie as a two-seater wheelchair in order to allow the passengers access to the views out across the pier, and by the beach huts, as this is a no cycling zone.

A good time was had by all feeling the wind in the hair and bugs in the teeth.
