On Tuesday 26th July, Trixie Trishaw attended Sherburn House Care Home in Durham as part of the trishaw trial for care homes organised by the Care Home Wellbeing Service at Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust.

While we were there, we took 26 residents from the care home for a ride around Sherburn House gardens. This was a great opportunity to show everyone how Trixie could help to get them out and about into the wider community.

Understandably, some of the passengers were reluctant to go for a ride at first, with some needing a bit of convincing but once they saw the other passengers returning with big smiles on their face they quickly changed their mind! Once we got some people on the trishaw it was hard to get them off so that other people could experience wind in their hair. We even had one couple sing as we went around the grounds, which started them all off singing old time songs.

Our oldest passenger for the day was 101 years young, looking forward to celebrating his 102nd birthday in December. The ride around the gardens brought back fond memories of his youth when he would ride his bicycle everywhere. Just to see the smiles on all of their face’s makes our day worthwhile.

Here’s to wind in your hair!
