On Wednesday 17th August, we went on an adventure with Trixie Trishaw McChadwick the minibus and Stockton Lodge Care Home residents.

Michelle, the Activities Coordinator at Stockton Lodge Care Home, got in touch to request a trip to take six of the care home residents for a day out in Seaton Carew. Seaton is a lovely local seaside town and we were able to enjoy fish & chips on the sea front and take the residents (and supporting staff) for a ride in Trixie along the promenade, providing much joy to the passengers.

Our passengers were so happy to be out in the fresh air, beside the sea and feeling the wind in there faces. Although it was sunny and skies were bright and blue, there was quite a breeze on the sea front but nobody was complaining.

One of the residents took some persuading to ride on Trixie but once he climbed aboard there was no stopping him and he then experienced several rides, enjoying the wind in the hair feeling.

We also spent some time with Michelle, offering a “crash course” on how to ride the trishaw and hope that in the future she may complete the volunteer training and she can then pilot the trishaw during these trips, if she wants to and it is viable to do so (of course).

A excellent day was had by all. It is always a true pleasure getting to witness the flushed smiling faces of the passengers at the end of their ride. Stockton Lodge enjoyed it so much that they have booked another trip out and we are looking forward to sharing more of these positive experiences with the staff and residents at Stockton Lodge.

If you work at, now of or have a family member or friend in a care home and would like to find out more about our free taster sessions for care homes, please get in touch.

In the meantime, keep a look out for Trixie Trishaw and McChadwick the Minibus as I’m sure we will be coming to your town soon!
